MS ABDB FOOTBALL TEAM: Majra edge BSRC in 7-goal thriller

MAJRA FC defeated Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) 4-3 in the third-round FA Cup match at the Berakas Sports Complex last night.

In the early moments of the first half, Majra FC played long balls and used both their left and right flanks to get crosses and through balls into BSRC's penalty box.

Despite the early onslaught BSRC held out against Majra FC's attacks, and scored the first goal in the 22nd minute against the run of play from a counter attack.

A BSRC defender intercepted the ball before releasing a long pass into Majra FC's territory that found BSRC's Syazwa Mohd. He quickly sprinted with the ball into Majra FC's penalty box and fired the ball home.

The game looked done and dusted for BSRC when they were awarded a penalty in the 36th minute following a hard slide tackle by a Majra FC defender in the box.

BSRC's Junaidi Brahim took the penalty and scored, making it 2-0.

However, Majra FC made a stunning comeback, starting in the 42nd minute when a through pass from the left found a waiting Mohd Azri Zahari who quickly shot the ball with his left foot, pulling a goal back to make the scores 2-1.

In the second half, BSRC's counter attacks paid off again. The team from KB restored their two goal lead when the ball was passed to their striker Syazwi Mohd.

He beat his man inside the Majra penalty box from the left side and scored his second goal of the game in the 60th minute.

It was not over for Majra FC though, when a cornerkick from the right was awarded to them and striker Faizal Mohd headed the ball into goal in the 71st minute, making it 3-2.

Faizal equalised just two minutes after his first goal when he received a long ball in the middle of BSRC's penalty box and the player turning well and rifling the ball into the net.

With Majra FC's relentless attack, Mohd Azri Zahari scored the winning goal in the 87th minute with another long ball taking apart the BSRC defence.

Mohd Azri had to evade two defenders before firing the winner from the left side of goal capping a remarkable night for his team.

Majra FC Assistant Manager Hj Mahaddi Hj Madziin told The Brunei Times that the change of formation after half time helped them win the game.

"We started in the first half with with the formation of 4-4-2 but since we were trailing behind, we changed our formation to 4-3-3," said Hj Mahaddi.

"First half we had many chances but we had made mistakes, but our players still had the fighting spirit to win the game," he said.

Hj Mahaddi explained that the tactical change gave the team a much better chance for attack.

Majra's assistant manager also praised the opposition saying it was a great game and that BSRC were quite formidable opponents to play against.

Majra FC's biggest achievement to date was winning the DST Group Brunei League Cup final in 2011.

This Saturday's match will witness Sporting FT play against MS ABDB at the Balapan Track and Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.?

Romney raises nearly $112 million in 17 days

Mitt Romney (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)CINCINNATI?Mitt Romney raised nearly $112 million for his presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee in the first half of October?putting him on pace for a potentially record-breaking fundraising month for his campaign.

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul announced the number in a message on Twitter. The total included cash raised between Oct. 1 and Oct. 17, according to the campaign.

No further details were offered, such as the breakdown of how much money went to the Romney campaign versus the Romney Victory Fund, a joint committee formed between his campaign and the RNC. According to the campaign, the Romney effort headed into the final weeks of the campaign with more than $169 million cash in the bank.

Last month, Romney raised $170 million for his campaign and the Romney Victory Fund in September?a new monthly record. But President Barack Obama outpaced Romney, raising $181 million for his campaign in September.

Romney's $112 million intake comes after his campaign claimed new momentum in the aftermath of the presidential debates. The Obama campaign has not yet announced its mid-month October fundraising total.

According to the Romney campaign, more than $38 million of the nearly $112 million raised came in donations of $250 or less.

Decoding a Painting: Sikhs in Canada

Decoding a Painting:
Sikhs in Canada

Dr DEEPALI DEWAN

?

?

?

The contemporary painting, ?Sikhs in Canada,? by celebrated UK-based twin sisters, Amrit and Rabindra Kaur Singh (popularly known as ?The Singh Twins?), is back on display at the Royal Ontario Museum ("ROM") after being launched on May 19, 2012.

It is on display in the Ondaatje Gallery (level 3 of the Lee-Chin Crystal)?and?explores?the history of the Sikh diaspora in Canada. This painting was commissioned by the ROM in 2006, completed in 2010, and is now part of the ROM?s permanent collection.

Created in the artists? signature ?past-modern? style (a play on the term ?post-modern?), it is a tour-de-force reflecting the historical and cultural evolution of the Sikh diaspora in Canada.

The painting moves from the scenic West coast of Canada to the urban metropolis of Toronto and from early migrants to contemporary Canadian society. Decorative details provide a symbolic dimension, such as the combined paisley and maple leaf motif to represent the Sikh-Canadian identity.?

Even the ROM is represented in the painting, as a venue that helps presents and preserves Sikh heritage in Canada.

The images on this page, taken from the painting itself, highlight certain details. Let me try and decode their references.

THE PAINTING

Sikhs in Canada, by The Singh Twins, Gouche on board, England, 2010, 44 x 32.5 cm. 2010.53.1

This acquisition was made possible with the generous support of the Louise Hawley Stone Charitable Trust Fund.

?IMAGE A

At the top of the painting is a crest with references to the first turbaned Sikh to play for the Canadian football league, the official maple leaf tartan of Canada wrapped into a turban, and CBC Sport's broadcast of 'Hockey Night in Canada' with Punjabi commentary. The migratory monarch butterfly, the National insect of Canada, symbolizes both Sikh migration and official recognition in Canada.

IMAGE B

A bit further down the painting, the terrain represents the arrival of early Sikh settlers on ships and the establishment of the town of Golden in the Rocky Mountains area of British Columbia. The Pacific Railway and the Mayo and Herb Doman lumber industry giants reference early Sikh contribution to the infrastructure of Canada. The men in blue on the left pick up lumber yet wear stethoscopes around their necks, indicating the professions from which Sikh settlers came. The CN Tower and City Hall represent Toronto, the location of one of Canada'a largest Sikh communities today.

IMAGE C

In the middle right is one of Canada's first gurdwaras built in Vancouver 1908, combined with the Union Jack flag, reminiscent that Sikh pioneers were British citizens under the British Raj. Amongst the group of people depicted is Captain Kesur Singh, one of the earliest Sikh settlers in Canada from the turn of the 1890s; Baba Gurdit Singh, a central figure in the 1914 Komagata Maru incident; and Baltej Singh Dhillon, the first turbaned Sikh member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

IMAGE D

In the lower left are Sikh contributions to the arts (the band Punjabi By Nature) and the media (OMNI TV), as well as international recipients of the Sikh Centennail Award, including the oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh, the first female Sikh Mayor of New Zealand Sukhi Turner, and the artists themselves. In the intricate carpet design in the background are cranberries, strawberries, and raspberries, denoting Sikh contribution to Canadian agriculture.

Cultivate The Simple Golf Swing And Drive The Ball The Ball Off The ...

Are you frustrated by your golf swing? Would you like to have more accuracy or distance? A good golf swing isn't magic. It's just a matter of getting the different parts of the swing right. This may seem impossible at first and even experienced golfers will tell you that it's not easy to develop a simple golf swing. But it can be done with practice.

A good golf swing breaks down into certain key elements.

For this, you need to look at how your foot placement. They should be spaced at shoulders width and your right heel should be placed slightly behind you. The final placement of your feet doesn't matter beyond that, as there is no right or wrong place to perfectly place them. However, you do want to be sure you aren't hovering over the ball.

To master this simple golf swing, all you need to do is to relax your arms and allow them to hang naturally. Your elbows should then be placed slightly in front of your body as you hold onto the club. If you are placing your arms away from your body, you are going to find that you aren't able to properly hit the ball.

When you grip the club, you will need to be sure that you are holding it firmly. This is just enough to ensure that you don't lose your grip when you swing, but not hard enough that you cannot pivot the club properly.

With this grip in place, you will want to line up your ball with the center of the club. Now, you will want to determine the direction you want the ball to go to. Once you have determined the target, you will align your club, ball and then target.

Your back swing should be slow and easy. Swinging back hard will steal accuracy from the downswing and can throw your body off balance. Lean back slightly to place a bit of weight on your back foot and follow through with the down swing. Your shoulders should turn slightly on the back swing and back in the other direction as you move into the follow through.

You will discover that the best golf swing will be something that takes precision. While it might seem simple, you will need to understand it does take work. While there are websites, videos and books on this, a professional will be the best way to get these skills down properly. After all, nothing will replace hands-on training.

Facebook COO Sandberg: How to build a business - Postcards

So, Facebook (FB) knows how to grow. On Tuesday, the company that everyone loved to discount reported better-than-expected profits and a 32% increase in third-quarter revenue to nearly $1.3 billion. The stock is popping.

Substantial credit goes to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's No. 2, who has learned a thing or two about scaling businesses. When Sandberg? joined her previous employer Google (GOOG) in 2001, that company had about 275 employees. By the time she left for Facebook in 2008, she recalls, Google had about 20,000 employees. During the past four years, she has seen Facebook grow from 550 to more than 4,000 employees. In the past year alone, active Facebook users increased 26% to more than 1 billion.

When Sandberg regretfully bowed out of this year's Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, I asked her if she would do something else: share her expertise on scaling an organization. She agreed and sums up the challenge for any company this way: "If you can't envision where you're going to go, you're not to get there."

Having both advised and learned from the two guys who top Fortune's 40 Under 40 list--Zuckerberg (No. 2) and Google CEO Larry Page (No. 1)--she came up with three guidelines:

Think Big. While management is "the science of administering a business," Sandberg says, "leadership is the art of accomplishing more than the science of management says is possible." Thinking really big--such as making the world more open and connected, which is Zuckerberg's vision--gets people excited. They follow the leader not only because they are paid to follow. They believe. "Repeat the mission," Sandberg advises. "Only by stating what's most important and by framing the conversation can you keep everyone focused."

Hire big. Sandberg's organization at Google grew from four to 4,000 people in five years. Which meant that the original four employees had to do 10 or 15 years worth of growing in a very short period of time. Sandberg learned a lesson from this: "Hire for what you think you're going to need," she says. "Hire people who are more qualified, have more experience, or are right out of school but can overachieve." Make sure that the person you're hiring to manage a 100-person office can manage the office if it reaches 1,000 people.

Plan big. Early on, Sandberg and her fellow Googlers celebrated everyone's birthday on their actual birthdays. "The problem was, six months later, we had so many people that we couldn't possibly celebrate everyone's birthday on that day," she recalls. So, Google shifted to weekly, then monthly, then quarterly celebrations. "We had these ginormous sheet-cakes with everybody's name on them," Sandberg recalls. "If I had been better at thinking ahead, I would have realized that celebrating everyone's birthday on the real day would not scale." Plan events and celebrations that will scale, she advises. For instance: Zuckerberg's hackathons--when Facebook engineers and tech talent gather to share products and features they developed outside their main jobs. "You can do these with three, 3000, or 30,000 people if we ever get there," Sandberg says, dreaming of Facebook's future growth.

Memoto camera to record life with two pictures every minute, shared through Android app

Android Central

It looks like the next big thing has hit Kickstarter, and it's called Memoto. This tiny little 5 megapixel camera clips to your clothes, automatically takes pictures, geotags them, and once plugged into your computer over microUSB, uploads to the cloud for storage (provided you have a subscription plan with Memoto). There isn't a single button on the camera because it automatically starts shooting as soon as you start wearing it.

The picture quality isn't particularly great, but Memoto is aiming for sheer volume. We're talking two per minute for two days straight on a single charge. Luckily, the Android and web app will help organize everything into batches of shots and splice the moments into time-lapse videos. Sharing can be open or private, with selective visibility.

On the one hand, I can't help but see this as the perfect Christmas present for hipsters that overshare on Instagram, but on the other I appreciate something taking pictures that aren't forced or framed, since I find they tend to be the most meaningful and honest. It's also nice having all of the pictures automatically organized by location and timeframe. Manually managing that stuff is a hassle, and my case often results in great shots sitting on an SD card somewhere, unshared and barely viewed. It would be good to see Memoto talk directly with your mobile in some way, as opposed to just accessing pictures already in the cloud, though transferring an image over Bluetooth every two minutes to be particularly battery-efficient. Maybe using the phone's GPS could add location accuracy, or maybe you could splice in photos from your phone into moments being recorded on the Memoto.

The Memoto Kickstarter campaign launched yesterday and is already fully funded. Early Bird backers stock is sold out, but there are some Memoto units available at the $249 tier, which is still $30 off what they intend to sell it for once it hits retail in the spring. Anyone biting? The pricetag seems a little steep, no?

My Amazing DIY Solar Generator | Care2 Healthy Living

I remember the inspiration for building my solar generator clearly. It was close to 20 years ago and we were camping at the dunes in Oregon. Our campground neighbor, in a huge RV, ran his generator for about 2 hours one evening. Needless to say, it was annoying beyond compare ? we go camping for peace and quiet.

We later found out from overheard conversations that the RV people were using the gas generator to charge the camcorder. Apparently they did not have a DC adapter or know about a thing called an inverter. One of the campers on the other side of them, also in a big RV, explained how the inverter works. An inverter plugs into a cigarette lighter socket (or they can be hardwired) and converts 12 volt DC into 120 volt AC. The other RV camper said they charge all of their things while they are driving. Brilliant, eh? Well, I took this idea a few steps further and set up something that is completely solar-powered and portable.

More Modern Needs
20 years ago, I did not have a camcorder or a digital camera. My photography was old school and used film ? you might remember how primitive that seems today. Just a year or so after I got my first digital camera, I picked up a simple inverter for my truck and we charged things while underway. This concept works great if you are road tripping and spend a good part of your day driving. But recently, we have spent a bit more time in a ?base camp? type trip. Not driving a few hours each day limits the potential for keeping the camera battery topped off.

My solar generator is comprised of a single 12 volt, 10 watt solar panel that feeds a sealed 12 volt gel battery. To keep the battery in tip-top shape, the current is routed through a small charge controller. The whole set up fits neatly into an aluminum attach? sized case. I use it now to charge my camera batteries via the inverter (which I borrow from my truck) or use it to charge things directly via the generator?s cigarette socket. I picked up a ?car adapter? for my laptop and my sweetie uses her car adapter for her iPhone. 120 volt items are covered with the inverter, and the item-specific car adapters fill their roles. To power even more devices, I have a cigarette socket adapter with a USB port.

eBay Thanks You: Be you Buyer, Be You Seller? | Via ...

Has eBay affected your shopping habits??Have you ever sold on eBay?

It?s likely eBay has affected your life in some way? I know that around here, it has been a great resource for my musician husband. And a resource for me to find the not-so-easy to find stuff.

I?ve even earned a few bucks by selling on eBay.

On occasion, I swing by a yard sale or Goodwill with the hopes of stumbling across a sweet little vintage or unique find, but until I saw this video I hadn?t really considered eBay a source for finding cool treasures as well?

To be honest, I was unfamiliar with Jonathan Adler until just a couple moths ago when I purchased one of his phone cases at a shop at the airport?

PUT A BIRD ON IT!

I was inspired by Jonathan?s story (can I call you by your first name, Jonathan?). I too, love orange!?Also, I am going through a bit of a design crisis. Ish. I want more color and visual fun in my home. More CHARACTER! I find the standard-issue choices from department stores leave me feeling bland and meh.

And broke.

eBay has been a great money-saving resource for our family. From buying and selling used clothing and handbags, to guitars, to other music-related gear, to craft supplies? But this is the first I?ve considered it as a place for fun finds to spruce up my home? an estate sale while sitting at my desk?!

Now that?s just fun!

Look at this cute little guy. He?d be so cute on a bookshelf. I love owls?

Also, I LOVE LAMP.

But my favorite eBay memory is the time I gave my husband an eBay gift card for his birthday.

I scored BIG points on that!

How about you? Do you have a favorite eBay memory? Do you search eBay for unique treasures or for practical things? Would you say you are more of a buyer or seller?

Indochina: Wanderings in South East Asia's battered backpacking trail

Uber cheap flight tickets, booked one year in advance, kicked-off my dream of finally embarking on a 10-week trip to Indochina. This well-trodden backpacking trail passes through countries located in the mainland part of South East Asia such as Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

I didn?t have much time to plan any concrete itinerary or schedule. I even packed for the long trip a few hours before I left home. I knew traveling around the main tourist sites in Indochina would be easy because of its legendary popularity among backpackers. It?s definitely one of those places where you?re better off not over-planning.

Indochina: Wanderings in South East Asias battered backpacking trail
Photo summary of my 10-week trip around Indochina. An overload of ancient ruins, breathtaking natural scenery, temple-hopping marathons,?history lessons, and?intact cultural traditions.

Weeks before the trip, instead of planning and getting excited on amazing places I?ll be visiting, I spent unhealthy amounts of sleepless nights in front of the PC trying my best to recover from a recent major financial loss. Pushing through with my planned travels for the rest of the year was the least of my concerns. I was scared a big dent in my savings could make it even harder for me to continue living this digital lifestyle I wanted for myself.

My situation thankfully started to improve. I wasn?t earning remotely close to how much I used to (or was used to) but it was, at least, enough to make me feel like there was still hope.

If there was one critical lesson I learned during my travels, it?s listening and trusting your gut feeling. If you have things you really want to do but fear is holding you back, just go for it! Those desires are best satisfied while the fire is still burning.

My 10-week Indochina route itinerary

I started with an overnight layover in Malaysia since I booked flights with AirAsia, which only flew to Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu (at the time). I meant to start my trip in the Thai City of Chiang Mai. It was my homebase for 3-weeks before I traveled around the rest of Northern Thailand for the remainder of my 30-day visa.

I crossed overland to Laos. Traveled southwards for a little over two weeks then crossed the border to Cambodia. Vietnam was so close, I wasn?t able to resist a quick 3-day side trip :)

Before the month was over, I backtracked to explore more of Cambodia then headed to Bangkok to catch a flight to Myanmar where I spent the last two but very memorable weeks of the trip.

Spam, Glitches, and Cost: 5 Drawbacks of Email Marketing ...

Businesses use email marketing as a way to get in touch with their customers and provide them with information. Unlike direct mail, email places the company?s marketing message directly in front of their customer?or so they hope. Email marketing is not perfect, and while it does have a few benefits, it also has its fair share of disadvantages. Before you opt to use email as your next marketing campaign, read on about five of the biggest drawbacks to email.

1. Your customers may not see your message.

Spam filters keep customers from receiving emails all the time. If you?re not careful with the words you choose for a subject line, your customers may never see the email. If you notice that a large number of your customers are not opening your emails, it could be a sign that something you?re doing is not sitting right with spam filters, so you may want to take the time to look into it. You also need to be cognizant of the days and times that you send your emails. If it?s in the middle of a workday, it?s possible that your customers will overlook your email to focus on job-related tasks, but by the time they get home, they?ll have forgotten about your email altogether.

2. It?s not cheap.

In order to send campaigns to a large number of consumers, you will need to have someone on staff who can design something eye catching and someone who can write something intriguing. Both of these people will cost you money. You will also need to invest in email campaign software, such as Constant Contact. This tool will store all of your contacts? information as well as provide you with templates to create basic email campaigns. But again, this will cost money.

3. You need to work hard.

If you have mastered getting by the spam filters, your next challenge is to actually get your email opened by your customers. This requires you to create catchy subject lines and also provide good meaty content on the inside that will interest them. Your customers are not going to waste their time reading your email if they?re not enticed to do so, so your email marketing campaigns need to be thoroughly planned and launched to be successful.

4. There will always be glitches.

Though we live in a world run by technology, we can?t seem to make all the technology work together. Chances are that not all of your customers are using the same type of computer or web browser. The problem is that what looks great on one computer and on one web browser may look like garbage on another. For example, if you created your email marketing campaign on a Mac computer and you tested it out through Outlook on Safari and it looked great, that doesn?t? t mean that it will look great on a PC opened in Gmail through Internet Explorer. For those customers who are getting the distorted version of your email campaigns, you can be sure they won?t benefit from your emails.

5. It?s becoming an old tactic.

Back in the day, email replaced direct mail. Today, social media is replacing email. Many companies are turning to social media as a way to engage with their customers and provide them with information. Some companies are even doing away with internal emails and relying on corporate social media sites like Yammer for all of their internal communications. Thanks to social media, email marketing does not have the same effect it once did.

There are a few drawbacks to email marketing, and if it?s a tactic that you?re using or thinking about using, it?s important you understand these disadvantages to better assess which marketing tactics are right for your business.

New self-healing coating for aluminum developed to replace cancer-causing product

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? A research team at the University of Nevada, Reno has developed a new environmentally-friendly coating for aluminum to replace the carcinogenic chromate coatings used in aerospace applications. The chromate conversion coatings have been used for more than 50 years to protect aluminum from corrosion.

The team presented their research last week at the international Pacific Rim Meeting on Electrochemical and Solid-State Science in Hawaii.

"It was well received at the conference," Dev Chidambaram, lead scientist and assistant professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Nevada, said. "There is no question that this will be able to replace the chromate-based coating. Even though the coating formulation is yet to be optimized, the coating has shown exceptional performance."

Attempts to replace chromate coatings with non-toxic coatings have been underway since the 1980s. The awareness on effects of chromates was brought to the forefront in 1993 by the real-life incident involving Erin Brokovich and depicted in the movie released in 2000 of the same name. Although the use of chromates for consumer and automotive applications has been banned, it is still in use by the defense and aerospace industries under various exemptions.

The carcinogenic coatings were exempted from the ban due to unavailability of suitable replacement combined with the high human and financial cost of failure from corrosion. The search for a suitable replacement has been elusive primarily due to one main characteristic of the coating referred to as "self-healing," the ability of the coating to heal itself after being damaged or scratched.

When scratched, the coating components from nearby sites migrate to the damaged region and re-protect the underlying alloy. A short video of the coating formation is on Chidambaram's website, www.electrochemical.org/ under the heading "Cool Videos."

Chidambaram's formulation performs comparably to the chromate formula in its ability for self-healing, which is important to the defense and aerospace industry. The coating can be applied to all aluminum products. The new formula creates an environmentally-benign molybdate-based coating that provides corrosion protection to aluminum, used for aircraft and spacecraft. These coatings, when damaged, will re-heal themselves.

The University of Nevada, Reno team developed and tested more than 300 coatings before arriving at this formulation. They used a complimentary suite of advanced surface analytical techniques such as Raman microspectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to conclusively prove the presence of molybdate in the scratched region. Further, using electrochemical testing, the team showed the coating re-protected itself via self-healing upon scratch test.

The team includes graduate student David Rodriquez, who conducted the extensive testing on the materials, and undergraduate aerospace engineering major at the University of Colorado, Boulder intern Roshan Misra, who began the project as a high school summer intern from Reno High School. The team is still working to optimize the coating formulation for even better protection.

"This has taken 14 years of work, continuing on work I did at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the Brookhaven National Laboratory," Chidambaram said.

NEW ORLEANS In an address at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans, Patrick Conway, MD, FAAP, chief medical officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), will discuss how quality improvement programs in all 50 states are committed to providing children with better health security through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by expanding health care coverage at a lower cost.

Through the ACA, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide health coverage to nearly 60 million Americans. CHIP provides health coverage to almost 8 million children in families who seek to provide safe, efficient, high-quality medical care.

Dr. Conway, who is also director of the CMS Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, will also discuss how accountable care organizations and pediatric hospitalists work together to make health care safer and more effective for hospitalized children. Dr. Conway's presentation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Section on Hospital Medicine Program in the New Orleans Convention Center, Room 281-282.

The CMS is responsible for all quality measures, value-based purchasing programs, quality improvement programs, clinical standards and survey and certification of Medicare and Medicaid health care providers across the nation.

"We are launching a number of programs designed to pay for quality and value instead of volume," said Dr. Conway. "Pediatricians have an opportunity to lead medical homes, quality improvement initiatives, and systems accountable for better health outcomes for children. Investment in child health can reap long-term benefits."

Dr. Conway joined CMS from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where he led over 20 faculty and 30 staff in its clinical, education, and research mission focused on improving health outcomes. He served as director of hospital medicine and an associate professor at the hospital as well as a vice president, leading the hospital's outcomes performance efforts, and director of rapid evidence adoption in the James M. Great Tips And Advice For A Successful Home Business - PDF

Great Tips And Advice For A Successful Home Business

If someone told you that you could start up a business today at home and eventually quit
your job, would you believe them? Most of the people offering these opportunities make their
money by convincing others to purchase work from home packages. Starting a successful
home business is definitely a real possibility; however, there are no short cuts. Read the
following tips that will show you how to begin with your home business aspirations.

Before you sell your product, do some research to see what the current price points are for
your product in the market. Price the item or service as offered by your competitors, and aim
your price just slightly lower. It is unprofessional and generally a bad business practice to
speak negatively about your competition. Pay attention to your own business and run it
ethically and professionally.

While setting up your business at home, do research on rates charged by your local
competitors. Use the information you glean from your research to determine what you should
charge. Charge what you are worth to earn what you need.

Create a banner section for your site. That way, you can have a banner exchange program
with partnered businesses. This will provide many backlinks, which will increase your Google
page rank as well as providing the users of the sites your link.

When you have your home business in operation, always keep a record of any traveling that
you do for business purposes. As a new business owner, you may not know that you can
deduct business-related mileage from your taxes. By claiming your business travel expenses
on your taxes, you can save a lot of money.

If you can't decide what your home business should sell, look around your own home for
inspiration in a void that needs filling or a product you can't live without. Highlighting a need
is your number one step to picking a successful product. Most likely, others can use some of

the same products you use in your everyday life.

When you are "knee-deep" in work, inform your friends and loved ones so that you are not
bothered at that time. Politely tell those friends or family who drop in that you are busy
working. You might ask that they wait in a different room while you finish the job at hand.
Suggest that they watch television or read a magazine during their wait.

Consider charging a membership fee for your website to earn profits. In most cases, your
website could effortlessly execute a membership enlistment fee that could increase your
profits.

The support and even assistance of any relatives who live with you is critical to a successful
home based business. Operating a home business takes up a great deal of time, and can be
fraught with hardships and stress. Without the support of your family members, your home
business is very unlikely to succeed.

Start your home business while you are still employed. Chances are that your new business
will not bring in a profit for quite a while, and it is best to have regular income from your
current job during that time. Having an income while building up your new business is highly
beneficial.

A lot of people would love to work from home and run their own business. Sadly, most people
do not know how to get on track with their own home enterprise. Use the above advice to
achieve success in your home business.
